Welcome to Ruby Rattery
I run a small rattery in Churchill, Victoria. My aim is to better the rat species as a whole, breeding to better there health as my goal and to ensure happy, outgoing and cheeky temperments. I do have some ratties whom do not take part in my breeding program, they are much MUCH loved (and spoiled) pets.
I pride my rattery in cleanliness, i have visited *some* ratteries, and was quite dissapointed in that aspect, cleanliness is a key feature in keeping rats healthy. I do not under any circumstances use or reccomend any type of wood based bedding, specifically cedar, pine of even aspen wood shavings, as these have a detrimental affect on a rats respiratory system.
I, hope that one day in the not too distant future, that pet rats will be a recognised and widely loved pet as much as a dog, cat, or rabbit. It is all about awareness and teaching the public, after all you can NEVER say "EWWW!", "YUCK!" or "DISGUSTING!" to a pet rat until you have owned one yourself.
do not under any circumstances sell my babies to pet stores, as feeders, as feeder breeders, or to unsuitable homes.
I keep scrupilous records of all my births, deaths, pedigrees, health and temperments. All my rats are social with members of there own kind aswell as frequently socialised with my pack of dogs, whom get along very well with the rats and even try to groom them, any rat that does not get along with other rats won't take part in my breeding program.
I also only use either bottled water or filtered water for my rats (and mice), as you will read in my RAT CARE section, fluoride and chlorine in tap water are DANGEROUS to your rats! Also filtered water i have heard can slow the paralysis in rear legs of rats as they age.
Please have a look around my website and enjoy :)
